The baseball team has a very busy week to close out the season! Good luck this week Lakers!
The home varsity game against Telstar has been re-scheduled. Please keep in mind that per the MPA the game has to be re-played and that the last date to make that happen is by June 5th. With that said our varsity baseball team will travel to Mason field (MCI) in Pittsfield on Monday 6/2 for a 12:00 pm game vs. Telstar. At the completion of that game our team will then travel to Howland for their 4:00 pm game that was already scheduled. While I know this is certainly not optimal, in order to avoid losing a couple of seasons due to potential sanctions we had to make the game up and this was our only option. As always I appreciate your support for our student athletes. Go Lakers!
Due to anticipated weather, tomorrows varsity baseball game in Jackman as been postponed and rescheduled for Thursday June 5th at 2pm. Bus will leave at 12:00.
ATHLETIC AWARDS BANQUET DETAILS:
VARSITY: Tuesday June 3 at 5:00 in the cafeteria. We will provide a spaghetti dinner with awards to follow. Due to graduation prep the entire ceremony will be held in the Cafeteria.
Middle School: Friday June 6 at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Pizza party followed by the award ceremony.
I look forward to starting a new tradition here at GCS with a more formalized athletic banquet to recognize the hard work and dedication our student athletes exhibit all year!

Due to the sunshiny weather on Wednesday and the rain forecasted for Thursday and Friday, we moved the K-5 Elementary Field Day festivities to Wednesday, May 28! Please refer to the flyer in your child's take home folder, as well as FB and the GHSlakers.org website for details.
This weeks varsity baseball/softball games at Schenck have been moved from Thursday 5/29 to Friday 5/30 at 4:30. The bus will depart at 1:30.
Middle School baseball/softball in Mt. Jefferson will be made up on Tuesday 5/27. Games will be played at 2:30 pm; however the time limit will become 1:15 minutes and not the normal 2 hour limit due to Mt. Jefferson needing to host another team after us. Student dismissal will be at 11:15, bus will depart at 11:30.

Tomorrows middle school games in Mt. Jefferson have been re-scheduled and will now be played on Tuesday 5/27. Game times will be posted soon. A decision on the varsity baseball game in Milo will be made by tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for details.
The middle school baseball/softball games at home vs. Millinocket will be made up Wednesday 5/21 at 1:30 pm. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:30. Come out for a middle school varsity double header. Varsity will follow the middle school games with 4:00 pm games vs. Jackman.
Tomorrow's middle school baseball and softball games at home have been rescheduled due to forecasted rain. The games will now be played Monday at home with a start time of 3:30 pm. Have a great weekend!
The 2025 GCS Spring Art Show & Concert is Thursday, May 22nd! Doors open for the Art Show at 5:30pm. The concert is in the Oakes Auditorium at 6pm.

Greenville Consolidated School's ENG 105 class was pleased to host Kristin Vekasi, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Maine, for a virtual guest lecture on 04/28/2025.
Dr. Vekasi, also the Director of the International Affairs program at UMaine, spent the morning explaining the historical and cultural context of Waiting, a novel by Ha Jin which is set during the Cultural Revolution in Communist China.
Students were further introduced to modern Chinese history, Mao's rise to power and his propaganda apparatus, and how the CCP came to dominate the social lives of the characters featured in the book during the middle of the 20th century.
Dr. Vekasi also shared some of her journey into academia and answered student questions related to the book and postsecondary education.
It was a great privilege to have a subject-matter expert meet with our class.
On Thursday, May 1st, artist Sarah Haskell visited our school to lead a community mandala weaving project, generously sponsored by Monson Arts. She brought a beautiful 36" circle loom, and students took turns weaving colorful fabric strips to create the vibrant centerpiece. Each student also made a clothespin doll to represent themselves, along with a ribbon that now hangs from the bottom of the mandala. Stations were set up for weaving, doll-making, and ribbons, and thanks to a coordinated schedule, nearly every student had a chance to participate. The finished mandala will be proudly displayed at the spring concert and art show alongside student artwork. It was a joyful and creative day filled with color, collaboration, and school-wide spirit!
During the weeks of April 7th-16th, students in the 7th grade science class participated in the Algae Academy, a hands-on, algae-based STEM program that uses algae as the vehicle for exploration while helping students hone STEM skills.

On May 2nd, students in the 7th grade science class traveled to the Darling Marine Center located on the Damariscotta River estuary in Walpole, Maine. Students worked with Boothbay Sea & Science Center to harvest the seaweed that they originally started growing in the classroom. They also visited the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder to view the migration of the alewives.
